Korean GPA to US 4.0

Convert a Korean university GPA on the 4.5, 4.3 or 100-point scale to the US 4.0 scale.

If you are staring at the GPA field on a graduate application, start here: there is no single way to turn a Korean GPA into a US 4.0 figure, and every published method gives a different answer. So this page does not pick one number for you. It runs each published method side by side and shows you the spread. Which one counts is decided by the school you are applying to.

Scale on your transcript

Your transcript states the maximum, usually near the bottom. If A+ is worth 4.5 it is the 4.5 scale; if A+ is 4.3 and there is an A- grade it is the 4.3 scale. The 100-point figure is computed differently at every university, so enter the number printed on your transcript as it stands.

These figures are a reference

There is no official answer. We run a handful of published methods exactly as they are written and show you what each one gives; which figure gets accepted is decided by the office reading your application. Methods and schools we could not verify are not included here, and every figure links to the document it came from.

Korean grade scales

On the 4.5 scale the gap between A+ and A0 is 0.5 and there are no minus grades. On the 4.3 scale the gap is 0.3 and minus grades make thirteen steps. The values below are taken from the universities' own pages.
